Resetting oil life light

The first way...

If you don’t know how to reset the Jeep Wrangler oil light or the light on another Jeep model, it’s so easy that beginners can do it. This is the first way to reset a Cherokee oil light or similar model:

  1. Turn the ignition to the position marked ON/RUN. However, don’t turn so far you start the engine.

  2. In the instrument cluster display, you’ll find several options. Select “Vehicle Info” and after that “Oil Life.”

  3. Press and hold “OK” for a little bit. This should reset the Jeep oil light back to 100%.

The second way...

  1. Just like before, turn the ignition to ON/RUN, but again, you’ll want to avoid starting the engine.

  2. Fully press the accelerator pedal three times within 10 seconds.

  3. Place the ignition in OFF/LOCK.

  4. If you still see the indicator light on after you follow either method, this means that the oil change indicator system didn’t reset to normal. We suggest carefully repeating the procedure a few times.

One last thing to be aware of: the engine oil change indicator is duty cycle based. What does this mean? All it means is that your engine oil change interval might vary based on your driving habits.
